Vice President Kashim Shettima has appealed to Nigerians, friends, associates and well-wishers to mark his 60th birthday by extending acts of kindness to the less privileged rather than spending money on gifts or celebrations in his honour.
Shettima, who turns 60 tomorrow, made the appeal in a goodwill message ahead of his birthday, saying he was deeply grateful for the affection, prayers and goodwill he had received over the years. He urged those who wished to celebrate him to channel whatever resources they intended to spend on gifts towards a charity, worthy cause or an individual in need anywhere in Nigeria.
The Vice President said attaining the age of 60 had strengthened his conviction that life should be defined less by material accumulation and more by service, gratitude and the willingness to give back to society. According to him, generosity is not measured by the size of what is given, but by the impact such kindness has on another person’s life.
He noted that nobody reaches a significant milestone in life solely through personal strength, stressing that everyone is a beneficiary of the kindness and support of family, friends, teachers, colleagues and even strangers. Shettima therefore encouraged Nigerians to repay the kindness they had received by extending help to others who may never have the opportunity to reciprocate.
The Vice President also asked Nigerians to pray for him and the country, particularly for peace, prosperity, wise leadership and the fulfilment of Nigeria’s potential. He expressed optimism about the country’s future, describing its youthful population, cultural diversity, entrepreneurial spirit and capacity for unity as some of its greatest assets.
Shettima thanked Nigerians for their loyalty, friendship, affection and prayers over the years, while wishing them long life, good health, fulfilment and the joy of being useful to others.
