The death of veteran Nollywood actor and artist, Alhaji Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has thrown his younger brother, Chief Ibrahim Dende Egungbohun, into mourning.
Ogogo, aged 66, died on Sunday, August 23, 2026, after reportedly battling Stage 4 cancer, leaving behind family members, colleagues and admirers who have continued to pay tribute to his life and contributions to the Nigerian entertainment industry.
For Chief Egungbohun, however, Ogogo’s passing is a particularly painful loss. He described the late actor as an elder brother who became a source of comfort, attention and affection, especially after the death of his uncle, Otunba Wahab Ayinla Egungbohun, popularly known as Baba Ode.
According to him, Ogogo consistently checked on him and made his wellbeing a priority, calling at different times of the day to ensure that he was doing well.
He said the late actor’s concern went beyond ordinary sibling affection, noting that Ogogo gradually filled the emotional gap created by the loss of his uncle.
“After the demise of my uncle, Baba Ode, Egbon was always there for me. He would call in the morning, afternoon, evening and even at night to check on me and make sure I was fine,” Egungbohun said.
Recalling the special relationship they shared, he said Ogogo became a dependable source of care and reassurance at a difficult period of his life.
“Egbon became like another uncle to me. He gave me exactly the kind of care and affection I needed at that time,” he added.
Egungbohun said the memory of Ogogo’s kindness and constant concern would remain with him, adding that his absence would be deeply felt.
“I will greatly miss his extraordinary care, his kindness and the genuine love he showed me,” he said.
He prayed for the peaceful repose of the deceased, asking Allah to forgive his shortcomings and grant him eternal rest.
“May his precious soul rest in perfect peace. May Allah kindly accept his return and grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus,” he prayed.
Ogogo’s death marks the end of a career that spanned decades in Nigeria’s entertainment industry, where he established himself as a respected actor and artist.
His remains are scheduled to be buried on Monday, August 24, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.
For Egungbohun, the burial will be more than a farewell to a celebrated entertainer. It will be a painful goodbye to an elder brother whose presence, care and affection became a source of strength to him after the loss of his uncle.
