A civic group, the Assembly of Patriots International, has petitioned the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate alleged financial impropriety involving the former Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA), Mr. Abayomi Hunye.
The group’s coordinator, Kazeem Soliu, disclosed this during a press conference held on Friday at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat, Iwe-Iroyin, Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta. He revealed that the petition, filed through the Democratic Integrity Forum on June 18, 2026, requests a comprehensive probe into alleged abuse of office and other financial misconduct during Hunye’s tenure.
According to Soliu, the petition accuses the former OGWAMA chief of engaging in practices ranging from conflict of interest and nepotism to the alleged diversion of public funds and unlawful enrichment while overseeing the affairs of the agency. He stressed that public officials entrusted with managing state resources must be held accountable and subjected to scrutiny whenever allegations of misconduct arise.
The group further alleged that several contracts and procurement deals under the agency were awarded to companies reportedly linked to members of Hunye’s family and close associates without following due process or established procurement guidelines. It claimed that available information points to the possible diversion of over N2 billion through a network of accounts and corporate entities allegedly connected to the former official and his relatives.
Soliu also urged anti-corruption agencies to conduct a forensic examination of financial records, procurement documents, contract awards, payment schedules and other relevant transactions to establish the veracity of the allegations. He maintained that while the former OGWAMA boss was reportedly removed from office following concerns raised by stakeholders, only a thorough criminal and financial investigation can determine the extent of any wrongdoing and ensure accountability.
