BEYOND POLITICAL LOYALTY: THE TEST OF LEADERSHIP AND THE LESSONS OF 2023

The recent omission of Oladipupo Adebutu’s name from INEC’s published list of candidates has once again exposed the fragility of the PDP’s political architecture in Ogun State and reignited questions about its organisational competence, internal cohesion, and preparedness for the demanding realities of electoral politics.

In 2022, when Ladi Adebutu’s PDP governorship candidacy faced a major challenge over issues surrounding the party’s delegate list, our leader joined the PDP and, alongside his team, played a pivotal role in the efforts that restored his candidacy. It was a defining moment that demonstrated the political experience, strategic capacity and invaluable influence our leader brought to the table.

Following the 2023 election, however, the disagreement over the 2027 succession question exposed the cracks in that political relationship. Our leader maintained that Ogun State could not ignore the principle of political balance after Governor Dapo Abiodun’s eight years in office, particularly when Ladi Adebutu hails from the same Ogun East Senatorial District.

Unfortunately, this disagreement degenerated into a political conflict in which our leader felt his character was unfairly targeted. Having reached that point, Our leader returned to the APC, alongside all his political structure to the progressive platform from which his political journey had begun.

Today, with renewed questions surrounding Ladi Adebutu’s appearance on INEC’s portal, the political landscape presents another significant test. The question is simple: who within his present camp possesses the political depth, strategic relationships and capacity to navigate a challenge of this magnitude, as My principal and his team did in 2022? Political structures are not sustained by names alone; they require experience, influence and dependable alliances.

Meanwhile, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (YAYI) stands at the centre of a progressive political movement whose strength lies in its capacity to accommodate genuine political stakeholders. PDP members who choose to align with the APC will find room to contribute their experience, political structures and grassroots influence to the collective pursuit of Ogun State’s development. Under the ITESIWAJU vision, political backgrounds need not become barriers to participation in a shared progressive future.
