The Bola Ahmed Tinubu/Otunba Gbenga Daniel (BATOGD) Movement has declared that its tactical stay-away directive during the Ogun State All Progressives Congress, APC Senatorial Primary election helped to avert what it described as a potential political bloodbath.
In a statement issued on Sunday and signed by thirty-seven leaders and stakeholders across Ogun East Senatorial District, the movement said its proactive action prevented violence and protected innocent party members and participants from possible attacks during the exercise.
According to the group, the leadership took the decision after observing what it called rising tension capable of degenerating into violence during the primary election.
The movement commended former Ogun State Governor and Senator representing Ogun East, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, for accepting the directive and placing the safety of his supporters above political ambition.
The statement noted that Senator Daniel demonstrated statesmanship by refusing to expose his followers to danger, describing him as “one of the heroes of this democratic process.”
While reaffirming its commitment to internal democracy, party unity and the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the BATOGD Movement urged its members and supporters to actively participate in the remaining APC primaries, especially the governorship and presidential party elections.
The statement was jointly signed by notable political figures across Ogun East including General (Rev’d) Olumuyiwa Okunowo (rtd), Akogun Kola Onadipe, Otunba Fatai Sowemimo, Prince Segun Seriki, Hon. John Obafemi, Dr. Bankole Osisanya, Rt. Hon. Remmy Hassan, Rt. Hon. Oludare Kadiri, among others.
The development comes amid heightened political activities and growing tension surrounding the ongoing APC primary elections in Ogun State.
