Thousands of youths and students under the umbrella of the Yayi Progressives Movement (YPM) are set to stage a solidarity trek in Ogun State in what organisers describe as a demonstration of support for the governorship ambition of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi), CON.
The planned 10,000-man march was announced during a press conference held at the Iwe Iroyin Press Centre, Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta, where leaders of the movement’s Youth and Students’ Wings outlined the purpose of the exercise and called for broad participation.
Addressing journalists, the Coordinator of the Students’ Wing, Comrade Dotun Opaleye, said the solidarity trek is designed to encourage greater youth involvement in the democratic process while expressing confidence in Senator Adeola’s leadership. He added that the APC candidate has consistently demonstrated commitment to education through initiatives that benefit students across the state.
According to Opaleye, one of such interventions is the recent award of bursaries and scholarships to 5,312 students studying in universities, polytechnics and colleges of education, describing the initiative as evidence of the senator’s investment in the future of young people and educational development.
Also speaking, the YPM Youth Leader, Comrade ’Bola Awotubo, appealed to youths, students, APC members and other supporters to turn out in large numbers for the event. He stressed that the march is strictly a peaceful civic engagement aimed at promoting unity, responsible leadership and active youth participation in governance, while assuring residents that participants would conduct themselves in an orderly, disciplined and law-abiding manner throughout the exercise.
