Former Senator Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello has launched a fresh attack on the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Ogun State, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi), describing him as “a liar” and accusing him of lacking integrity.
Responding to Adeola’s claims, Obasanjo-Bello questioned why he allegedly reached out to her and later offered her money to remain in the APC if he genuinely considered her supporters’ request for a refund of campaign expenses offensive.
She explained that during their final meeting, her political camp presented three requests to the senator: the Ogun Central Senate ticket, reimbursement of campaign expenses incurred by her supporters, and inclusion of her loyalists in his campaign structure.
According to her, Adeola failed to grant any of the requests or even communicate his position before she eventually left the party.
“My supporters made three requests on my behalf—the Senate seat, a refund of what they spent, and accommodation for my people in his campaign. I told him he didn’t have to agree to everything, but he should at least tell us what he could do. Instead, he did nothing and stopped communicating with me until after I had left the APC, when he started calling and even offered me money. If asking for a refund was insulting, why offer me money to stay?” she said.
Obasanjo-Bello maintained that she personally made no demands, insisting the requests came from members of her political team.
She joined the APC in January after registering in Ward 11, Ibogun, Ifo Local Government Area, signalling her return to frontline politics. However, she resigned from the party in May, citing rejection, disrespect and unfair treatment by the leadership.
The former senator has since emerged as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the Ogun Central Senatorial District in the 2027 election.
She also faulted the APC’s consensus process that produced Adeola as its governorship candidate, arguing that it violated the party’s established guidelines. Although she had agreed to support a consensus arrangement, she said she was never consulted before Adeola was announced.
Obasanjo-Bello further alleged that some of her supporters were denied access to the venue where the APC candidate was unveiled and were subjected to intimidation.
The former Ogun State Commissioner for Health, who represented Ogun Central in the Senate between 2007 and 2011 before relocating to the United States, returned to active politics late last year, with her re-emergence signalled by campaign billboards across Abeokuta.
