ABEOKUTA – Former factional Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly during the administration of former Governor Otunba Gbenga Daniel, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Soyemi Coker, is dead.
He reportedly passed away on Sunday at the age of 66 while preparing to attend a church service.
Coker was a seasoned politician and grassroots leader who also served as Chairman of Odeda Local Government. He was widely regarded as a calm, humble and accessible public servant whose contributions to governance and politics in Ogun State spanned several decades.
He came into prominence as the factional Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly during the political crisis that rocked the state under the administration of Otunba Gbenga Daniel.
Throughout his political career, he remained actively involved in public service and was respected across political and social circles for his simplicity and commitment to service.
Until his death, Coker was one of the apex leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Odeda Local Government, where he played advisory and mentoring roles for younger politicians. His death has thrown family members, political associates and supporters into mourning.
Details of his burial arrangements are yet to be announced by the family. His passing marks the end of the life of a politician remembered for his years of service to Ogun State, particularly his role in the state’s legislative history during one of its most politically turbulent periods.
