APC SLAMS AMAECHI, SAYS ‘PRESIDENCY IS NOT A SOUP KITCHEN’

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has launched a blistering attack on former Rivers State Governor and African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, questioning his suitability for public office over his recent comments about his financial difficulties.

In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, CON, on Sunday, the APC said it prayed for the repose of Amaechi’s late mother, Dame Ezinne Mary Oduah Amaechi, while also wishing the former governor good health.

The ruling party, however, took exception to Amaechi’s reported claim that he could not afford medication for his mother’s treatment before her death at the age of 89.

The APC recalled Amaechi’s four decades in public service, including his tenure as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, two-term governor, two-term Minister of Transportation and presidential aspirant, arguing that he had enjoyed significant access to public office and resources.

It said Amaechi’s recent disclosures about his financial condition raised questions about his ability to provide for himself and his family outside public office, describing him as a “loafer, aimless and irresponsible” for allegedly failing to establish a productive livelihood after leaving government.

The party also mocked Amaechi’s reported claim that he had become so financially constrained that his wife was now feeding him, saying such statements did not inspire confidence in his bid to become Nigeria’s Vice President in 2027.

“The presidency is not a soup kitchen and will not be a soup kitchen for Rotimi Amaechi,” the APC declared.

The party maintained that Amaechi’s own statements had provided the strongest argument against his suitability for the vice-presidential office, urging Nigerians to carefully consider his record and recent utterances ahead of the 2027 general election.
