Senator Shuaib Salisu, representing Ogun Central Senatorial District, has empowered hundreds of market women with a cash support program.
The initiative, tagged “Okowo Salisu,” aims to improve their economic well-being and overall quality of life.
The program was held near the Alake Palace, attracting market women from across the district.
Salisu, accompanied by APC leaders, assured the women of his commitment to completing the unfinished market hall renovation project.
The renovation will provide a safer and more comfortable environment for the women to have their meetings .
It will include fixing windows and improving infrastructure, expected to increase foot traffic and economic activities.
Salisu emphasized the importance of empowering women, describing them as the economic backbone of the family.
“If you empower a woman, you empower a family,” he said, drawing from his personal experience.
Each beneficiary received N100,000 for business support and additional funds for sustenance.
The Senator also introduced the women to financial institutions and provided tools like POS machines for digital transactions.
This initiative is part of Salisu’s broader efforts to support various groups in his constituency.
He expressed his commitment to supporting market women, citing his understanding of their challenges.
The intervention will be reviewed in six months, with prospects for further support to traders who successfully utilize the funds. This initiative is expected to boost the local economy and improve the lives of market women.
