A two term Secretary and Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ogun State Council, Comrade Wole Shokunbi popularly known as ATABA has concluded plans to contest for the Deputy National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists at the 8th Triennial Delegates Conference coming up in Owerri, November, 2024
Wole Shokunbi, a thoroughbred journalists based in Ogun State began his career at the Guardian newspapers and also Sketch Newspapers in Lagos and Ibadan between 1995 and 1999 before he joined the Ogun State Civil Service where he was posted to the Ministry of Information and Strategy and this is where he works till today.
Comrade Shokunbi served as Secretary and Chairman of the State Information Chapel from 2003 to 2006.He moved to contest at the state council level and was elected twice as the Secretary of Ogun Council of NUJ from 2006 to 2012
After his wonderful performance as the chief scribe of the council, he contested for the position of the Chairman and he was elected after winning convincingly and served twice like he did when he was the secretary between 2012 and 2019.
Comrade Wole Shokunbi had OND and later HND in Mass Communication from Ogun State Polytechnic, in 1993 and also a product of Nigeria Institute of Journalism, (NIJ) Ogba, Lagos where he bagged a PGD in Public Relations in 1996.
Comrade Shokunbi later attended the University of Ibadan and obtained Masters in Communication Arts (MCA) in 2003 and proceeded to Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, Ogun state where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts B.A (Hons) in Philosophy in 2017. He also has Masters in Peace and Conflict Studies from the University of Ibadan.
He is therefore calling on his colleagues and leaders of the Union to consider his candidacy considering his experience and academic background which has prepared him for the task ahead to support his course and stand by him.
He solicits for their support for the position of the Deputy President of NUJ in a quest to rebuild and reinvigorate our great Union.
