More than a month after the shocking murder that sent waves of grief across Ogun State and Nigeria’s broadcasting community, veteran broadcaster and former OGTV staff, Olayikitan Ibilola Oyesiku, fondly known as Aunty Kitan, has finally been laid to rest.
The woman whose lifeless body was discovered alongside her security guard in her Agodo residence, leaving many asking “Who killed Kitan Oyesiku?”, was given an emotional farewell marked by tears, prayers and glowing tributes.
The funeral service drew an impressive gathering of mourners, with the church filled to capacity. Among those in attendance were two former Deputy Governors, retired and serving Permanent Secretaries, former and serving staff of Ogun State Television (OGTV), family members, friends and many others whose lives she had touched through her distinguished career in broadcasting and public service.
Their presence was a testament to the legacy of excellence, humility and mentorship she left behind.
Delivering the sermon, the Diocesan Bishop, Rt. Rev. Emmanuel Adekunle, urged mourners to remain steadfast in faith, reminding them that while death may come unexpectedly, a life dedicated to God and humanity leaves an enduring legacy.
Emotions reached a peak when the only Bible reading during the service was taken by her only child and son, Tokunbo Macaulay, whose voice stirred tears across the congregation.
As a proud daughter of Egbaland, traditional honour was accorded to the late broadcaster. Staff of the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, alongside representatives of the Osile of Oke-Ona Egbaland, stood in solemn respect beside her casket, symbolising the honour and esteem she enjoyed among her people.
Following the church service, her remains were committed to mother earth during a private burial attended only by members of her family.
While justice continues to take its course over the circumstances surrounding her tragic death, those who gathered to bid her farewell found comfort in celebrating a life that inspired countless people.
Though her voice has been silenced, the memory of Olayikitan Oyesiku and the legacy she built in broadcasting and beyond will continue to resonate for generations.
