LAGOS — The Obidient Movement Worldwide has blamed the growing wave of political realignments across Nigeria’s opposition parties on deep internal crises, legal disputes, and what it described as coordinated infiltration aimed at weakening opposition forces ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, Yunusa Tanko, made the claims on Wednesday during an interview on Eagle 102.5 FM’s Frontline programme in Ilese-Ijebu, Ogun State, where he warned that opposition parties were facing what he called a “structural breakdown” threatening their survival.
Tanko alleged that several opposition platforms had become entangled in leadership crises, litigations, and factional disputes that have made stable political participation increasingly difficult for major political actors. According to him, the recurring instability has forced politicians to continually reassess their political platforms in order to avoid being trapped in prolonged legal battles capable of jeopardizing electoral ambitions.
He specifically referenced the crises within the Labour Party, Social Democratic Party and the African Democratic Congress, alleging that opposition parties were being weakened through orchestrated disputes and court cases. He claimed the situation contributed to the eventual movement of opposition figures into the newly formed Nigeria Democratic Congress.
