The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, Dr. Abayomi Tella, has described discussions on the performance of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration as a “waste of time,” alleging that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has failed to deliver good governance to the people of the state.
Speaking on Wednesday during an interview on Frontline, a current affairs programme on Eagle 102.5 FM, Ilese-Ijebu, Tella said the PDP remained the most credible alternative ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
According to him, residents across Ogun State were dissatisfied with the performance of the current administration.
“It would be a mere wasting of time talking about the administration of Prince Dapo Abiodun. Every individual in Ogun State tells you he did not do well. It’s as simple as that. And the alternative is PDP and we are coming on board,” he said.
Tella argued that the success of any government should be measured by the effectiveness of its local government administration, maintaining that grassroots development had suffered under successive APC-led governments.
He claimed that only the PDP, while in power, effectively empowered local councils, insisting that restoring local government autonomy would significantly improve governance and ease the economic hardship facing residents.
The PDP chairman also faulted the state government’s performance in education, healthcare and infrastructure, alleging that development had been concentrated within Abeokuta metropolis while rural communities remained neglected.
He rated the administration below average in most sectors, claiming it deserved less than 20 per cent for infrastructure and zero for education.
Tella, however, acknowledged Governor Abiodun for completing the Gateway International Airport at Iperu, which he said was initiated by former Governor Gbenga Daniel.
While giving the governor credit for delivering the airport project, he maintained that the administration had fallen short of expectations in virtually every other area.
On the welfare of pensioners, Tella accused the APC administration of neglecting retired civil servants and pledged that a PDP government would prioritise the prompt payment of pensions and gratuities if elected in 2027.
He promised that outstanding pension arrears would be cleared, stressing that retirees deserved dignity after years of service to the state.
The PDP chairman also expressed confidence in his party’s chances in the next governorship election, insisting that the PDP had resolved its internal challenges and was now united.
He further claimed that several prominent political figures in the APC, including Governor Dapo Abiodun, former Governor Ibikunle Amosun and Senator Gbenga Daniel, all had their political roots in the PDP and could eventually return to the party.
Tella predicted that the 2027 election would produce “a heavy surprise,” expressing optimism that the PDP would reclaim power in Ogun State. He added that the party remained focused, united and fully prepared for the polls.
