The Director-General of the Ogun State APC Campaign Council, Senator Lekan Mustapha, has attributed the absence of former Governors Gbenga Daniel and Ibikunle Amosun from the inauguration of the party’s 2027 campaign council to the late notice of the meeting.
Daniel and Amosun were designated Deputy Grand Patrons of the 156-member campaign council unveiled ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Mustapha, who spoke with journalists after the inauguration in Abeokuta, said he received information about the programme only on Wednesday evening, suggesting that the short notice might have affected the schedules of some of the prominent party leaders expected at the event.
He said the campaign council would immediately begin grassroots mobilisation across Ogun State, taking the APC message to villages, hamlets, towns and cities. Mustapha expressed confidence in the party’s prospects in the 2027 elections, saying he was “very, very confident” about the task ahead.
On concerns over possible discontent among some party members, particularly those who contested the party’s primaries but did not emerge as candidates, Mustapha said the situation should not necessarily be described as a crisis. He explained that the party was still engaged in the process of pacifying and reconciling those who lost out in the primaries.
Mustapha said the reconciliation process was ongoing and expressed optimism that all party members would eventually come on board.
He added that the campaign council would reach out to the absent leaders to find out the reasons for their absence and work towards having everyone participate in the party’s campaign.
