In a significant show of political realignment and renewed unity, the Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday officially welcomed prominent figures from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Allied Peoples Movement (APM) into its fold.

The courtesy visit, held at the APC State Secretariat in Iyana Mortuary, Abeokuta, was led by the immediate past PDP State Chairman, Hon. Dr. Sikirulai Ogundele, and former APM gubernatorial candidate and PDP Deputy Governorship candidate, Hon. Abdulkabir Akinlade (Triple A). They were joined by other political heavyweights including Hon. Fuja, Hon. Ekelojumati, and several key stakeholders from across the state.

Welcoming the returnees, APC State Chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi, described the event as a homecoming for genuine progressives. “You are not defecting; you are returning home,” Sanusi declared. He encouraged the new entrants to reconnect with their political bases and assured them of the party’s support. “If anyone gives you issues in your wards, let us know. We will resolve it immediately.”

Addressing the gathering, Hon. Ogundele clarified that the move was not a defection but a strategic alignment. “This is not just a political switch. It’s a progressive movement. At least two-thirds of the PDP in Ogun State and the entire APM family will join us on the official declaration day. We want to contribute to a winning team,” he said.

In his remarks, Hon. Akinlade reiterated their full commitment to the APC. “We are back home. We’re here to work, to unite, and to deliver. No one will be left in the opposition,” he assured.

Hon. Ekelojumati, speaking on behalf of the group, pledged to intensify grassroots mobilization across wards and local governments. “Our structures are already on the move. Before the official day, you will see more of us across the state,” he noted.

In his closing remarks, Hon. Yemi Adelani, the APC Organising Secretary, praised the decision of the returning members. “This is a bold move for unity. Hon. Akinlade’s grassroots strength is well known, and it adds immense value to our party.”

Adelani also encouraged inclusive leadership among the new members. “No party is perfect, but APC listens. Always carry your loyalists along. Governor Dapo Abiodun is a patient and understanding leader who believes in reconciliation and progress,” he added.

The event began with an opening prayer led by Alhaji Azeez, APC Ogun East Senatorial Chairman, and concluded with prayers and goodwill remarks from Alhaja Adigun Aminat, reflecting the cordial atmosphere of the day.

The development signals a significant reshaping of Ogun’s political landscape as the APC consolidates its position ahead of future elections.
