The Onirolu of Irolu-Remo, Oba Sikiru Adeyiga, has denied allegations that he obstructed a proposed All Progressives Congress (APC) and CAUCUS 7202 meeting in Irolu over the governorship ambition of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi.

The monarch, in a statement responding to a publication by Ayomide Ogunmoye, popularly known as Toto, said his position was motivated by concerns about peace and security in the community, not opposition to any political party or aspirant.

Oba Adeyiga described the allegations as disrespectful to the traditional institution and the people of Irolu and Remo, insisting that he had no objection to legitimate political activities in his domain.

Explaining his concerns, the monarch cited a security incident allegedly involving the Irolu Police Division on October 8, 2026, following the reported death by suicide of a rape suspect in police custody. He alleged that some individuals subsequently engaged in indiscriminate shooting, attacked the police station and assaulted an officer on duty.

According to him, the injured officer was taken to a hospital in Iperu for treatment, with the monarch claiming that he paid the medical expenses and funded repairs to the damaged police station.

He further alleged that police personnel were subsequently withdrawn from Irolu over security concerns, leaving the station non-functional. These claims have not been independently verified.

Addressing the disputed political gathering, Oba Adeyiga said his objection stemmed from concerns about another proposed meeting allegedly planned without prior notification or his knowledge.

He maintained that his responsibility as a traditional ruler was to protect lives and property, preserve communal harmony and prevent activities capable of threatening public safety.

The monarch also rejected attempts to link the disagreement to Senator Adeola’s governorship ambition, describing the senator as a responsible and peace-loving leader.

He insisted that the traditional institution should remain above partisan political disputes and that the disagreement should not be used to portray either the senator or the palace negatively.

The statement did not establish whether Senator Adeola or his representatives were directly involved in the disputed meeting.

Oba Adeyiga reaffirmed that Irolu remained open to legitimate political engagements and development initiatives, provided they were conducted peacefully and responsibly.

As of the time of filing this report, Ogunmoye’s response to the monarch’s claims was not available. The allegations surrounding the proposed meeting and the earlier security incident remain subject to independent verification.
