The newly elected Chairperson of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, Ogun State Chapter, Comrade Morenikeji Sobaloju, has pledged to promote unity, welfare, professional development and empowerment of women journalists across the state.
Sobaloju made the commitment in her acceptance speech shortly after emerging as Chairperson of the association.
She described her emergence as a collective victory for women journalists, stressing that the mandate was not about an individual but about strengthening sisterhood and advancing the interests of members.
The new Chairperson commended her contender for stepping down in the interest of unity, assuring that there would be no division within the association.
She said her administration would be guided by the principles of unity, progress, love and empowerment, with emphasis on members’ welfare, capacity building, mentorship and professional growth.
Sobaloju also promised to promote transparency, accountability, integrity and inclusiveness, while creating opportunities for both young and experienced journalists to contribute to the development of NAWOJ Ogun.
She solicited the support, ideas and guidance of senior colleagues and younger members, stressing that leadership was about listening, serving and creating opportunities for others to rise.
The NAWOJ Chairperson-elect pledged to lead with humility, fairness and an open heart, assuring members that she would work to leave the association stronger, more united and more vibrant.
She thanked members for the confidence reposed in her and declared that the work of rebuilding and strengthening NAWOJ Ogun had begun.
