The Senator representing Ogun Central Senatorial District, Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu, has recorded a major milestone in the drive to establish the proposed Federal University of Medical Sciences, Abeokuta, with the completion of a modern Community ICT Centre on the institution’s permanent site.

The facility, regarded as the first completed structure on the permanent site of the proposed university, is expected to support academic activities, digital learning, research and technological innovation as efforts continue toward the full take-off of the institution.

The project is seen as a significant step in Senator Salisu’s commitment to not only facilitating the establishment of the specialised medical university but also providing the critical infrastructure required for its growth and development.

Stakeholders described the ICT Centre as a strategic intervention capable of accelerating the university’s development while creating opportunities for digital education and skills acquisition for students and residents of surrounding communities.

Beyond the university project, Senator Salisu has also facilitated the construction of six additional Community ICT Centres across the six local government areas that make up Ogun Central Senatorial District.

The centres are designed to provide access to digital technology, internet services, ICT training and capacity-building programmes for youths, students, entrepreneurs and other members of the public.

The initiative is expected to enhance digital literacy, bridge the technology gap and improve economic opportunities within local communities.

The ICT projects form part of a broader constituency development programme being implemented by the Senator across Ogun Central in sectors such as education, healthcare, youth empowerment, technology, infrastructure and human capital development.

Since assuming office, Senator Salisu has championed various interventions aimed at improving the welfare of his constituents through strategic projects and legislative engagements.

Observers have linked the Senator’s emphasis on digital inclusion and technological advancement to his role as Chairman of the Senate Committee on ICT and Cybersecurity, noting that the projects reflect his commitment to leveraging technology as a tool for national development.

With the completion of the Community ICT Centre on the permanent site of the proposed Federal University of Medical Sciences, stakeholders believe the foundation has been laid for the emergence of a world-class institution dedicated to medical education, research and healthcare innovation in Ogun State.

The development further reinforces Senator Salisu’s vision of promoting educational advancement, technological empowerment and sustainable development across Ogun Central Senatorial District.
