ABEOKUTA — A prominent stakeholder and member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abeokuta North Local Government, Comrade Dapo Agboola, has strongly criticized the Senator representing Ogun Central, Shuaib Afolabi Salisu, accusing him of resorting to propaganda and political grandstanding instead of speaking the truth to the people of Ogun State.
Reacting to recent claims of overwhelming endorsements paraded by the lawmaker ahead of the 2027 general elections, Agboola described the declarations as “inflated figures” and “exaggerated narratives” that are completely far removed from the actual political reality on the ground.
According to Agboola, the purported widespread acceptance claimed by the Senator contradicts the visible discontent among constituents.
“The same people he claims overwhelmingly endorsed him are the very people whose reactions and rejection videos have flooded public spaces for all to see,” Agboola stated. “A man who is still struggling to establish genuine political acceptance should be cautious about making boastful declarations about 2027. As the saying goes, the road to the nose is still very far from the head.”
The APC stalwart challenged Senator Salisu to stand on his own merit rather than using the executive platform of the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, as a political shield.
Agboola raised critical questions regarding the Senator’s visibility, personal recognition, and performance since his election into the Red Chamber.
“The fundamental question we must ask is this: how many card-carrying members of our party within his own senatorial district can truly identify or know him as a person?” Agboola queried. “He needs to stop hiding under the platform and shadow of the Governor to claim relevance.”
He further challenged the lawmaker to outline his concrete achievements, asking, “Even as the sitting Senator representing the good people of Ogun Central Senatorial district, what tangible influences or grassroots projects can the people point to as the template of his representation?”
Agboola also warned against attempts by the Senator’s camp to rewrite the political history of the district, pointing out that political relevance in Ogun Central remains deeply rooted in authentic grassroots connection and historical performance. He noted that the district has a proud lineage of leaders who truly delivered.
“The legacy of qualitative representation in Ogun Central is rich and well-known; it stretches far beyond any single individual,” Agboola noted. “Our people remember the impactful, grassroots-driven tenure of Senator Gbenga Obadara, and the highly visible, people-oriented representation of Senator Lanre Tejuoso, both of whom established deep footprints across our local governments. Of course, the enduring influence, verifiable structures, and legacies of former Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, also remain an indelible reality. These leaders set a high bar of accessibility and performance. No amount of desperate media narratives can erase that standard.”
Elections are won through genuine connection with the masses rather than “media headlines, self-praise, or manufactured figures,” Agboola reminded party faithful that the APC is larger than any individual’s ambition. He described current political alignments as “temporary arrangements” that must not be mistaken for permanent acceptance.
He urged Senator Salisu to pivot away from rehearsals of endorsements and instead focus his energy on accounting for his stewardship to constituents who continue to question his visibility.
While calling for focus within the party ranks, Agboola urged all APC members and supporters across Ogun Central to remain calm, steadfast, and deeply committed to the unity and progress of the party ahead of the 2027 political cycle.
