A dramatic sting operation at a hotel within the premises of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), Abeokuta, has led to the conviction of four internet fraudsters by the Federal High Court in Lagos.
The Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) secured the convictions on Friday, August 15, 2025, before Justice D.I. Dipeolu, following a high-profile cybercrime raid that netted 93 suspects in total.
The convicted fraudsters — Bisiriyu Roqeeb Abiodun (alias “Sharon”), Ibrahim Azeez Olatunji, Akinwale Isaac, and Habeeb Oladipupo Oshundairo — were arraigned on separate charges of impersonation, identity theft, and internet fraud.
Investigations revealed that the criminals posed as fictitious American women, romance interests, and fake service providers to swindle unsuspecting victims abroad. Digital evidence, including mobile devices, incriminating emails, and social media accounts, was tendered in court alongside restitution payments made by the defendants.
Justice Dipeolu, after hearing the facts of the case, convicted each defendant:
- Olatunji: One month imprisonment or ₦500,000 fine.
- Oshundairo: 30-day community service in Ogun State, supervised by the EFCC.
- Akinwale: Three months imprisonment or ₦1 million fine, with forfeiture of a 2017 Toyota Camry, iPhone 16 Pro Max, and ₦400,000 restitution.
- Abiodun: One month imprisonment or ₦500,000 fine, with forfeiture of a Samsung Galaxy S20 and ₦200,000 restitution.
The EFCC said the operation was part of its ongoing crackdown on cybercrime networks targeting foreign nationals.
