Former Acting Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Kayode Oladele, has argued that the 2027 Ogun State governorship election should be guided by fairness, equity and balanced political representation among the state’s senatorial districts.
Oladele, in a statement issued over the weekend, said the decision of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to present Hon. Ladi Adebutu, an indigene of Iperu Remo, as its governorship candidate failed to reflect the prevailing political sentiment in the state. According to him, many residents would expect power to rotate after Governor Dapo Abiodun, who also hails from Iperu, completes his tenure.
The APC stalwart maintained that the governorship aspiration of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi) presents an opportunity for Ogun State to address what he described as the longstanding exclusion of Ogun West Senatorial District from producing a democratically elected governor since the state’s creation.
He stressed that while the agitation for Ogun West is rooted in equity, Adeola’s candidacy is also strengthened by his legislative experience, grassroots support and record of constituency development. Oladele noted that the senator’s popularity cuts across Ogun West, Ogun Central and Ogun East, making him a formidable contender in the race.
The former federal lawmaker also criticised the PDP for what he described as a failure to appreciate the changing political dynamics in Ogun State, insisting that the opposition party missed an opportunity to present a broader and more inclusive political option to the electorate.
Oladele, however, urged members of the APC to remain united and sustain grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections. He also called on residents of Ogun State to continue supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying stronger collaboration between the Federal Government and Ogun State would promote accelerated development and greater dividends of democracy.
