In a strong rebuttal to the Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Adekunle Abdulkabir Akinlade has condemned the party’s reaction to his recent resignation.
Akinlade’s Senior Media Consultant, Akinleye Olu-Philips, characterized the PDP’s statement as a reflection of its failure to maintain integrity, shared vision, and a cohesive structure.
In a statement released and signed by Olu-Philips criticized the Publicity Secretary of the Ogun PDP, Otunba Arc. Kayode Adebayo, for labeling Akinlade a “Judas” following his exit from the party.
He asserted that such name-calling is a poor reflection of the accuser’s character and reveals the chaotic state of the PDP, which has been plagued by internal disarray and infighting for over a year.
“The resignation of Hon. Akinlade is not an act of sabotage, but rather a logical response to a toxic environment within the party,” Olu-Philips stated. He highlighted ongoing conflicts, parallel congresses, and the absence of a structured leadership as central issues that drove Akinlade to leave the PDP.
The statement went on to challenge claims that Akinlade covertly supported the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the 2023 elections, calling such allegations “laughable” and “cowardly.” According to Olu-Philips, Akinlade’s contributions significantly strengthened the PDP’s electoral prospects.
Olu-Philips also referenced a critical moment in 2022 when the PDP faced disqualification from elections due to internal mismanagement, claiming Akinlade’s intervention was key to restoring the party’s viability in Ogun State.
“As Akinlade departs, it is the PDP that suffers a loss, not him,” the statement emphasized, highlighting Akinlade’s respected status as a former House of Representatives member and gubernatorial candidate.
The spokesperson urged the PDP to engage in self-reflection and address the internal issues that have led to a steady decline in membership and credibility. The statement closed with a stark reminder that rebuilding the party requires honesty and unity rather than scapegoating and factionalism.
