In response to a viral report falsely accusing Governor Dapo Abiodun of arriving six hours late to the final burial rites of the late Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, the Ogun State Government has issued a firm rebuttal, describing the claims as “a lie from the pit of hell.”
The misleading report, which has been widely circulated by political opponents, has been dismissed as a deliberate act of misinformation aimed at discrediting the governor and tarnishing a solemn moment of national significance.
The Facts, Not Fabrication
According to official information released by the Ogun State Government, the final rites were scheduled for 4:00 p.m., and Governor Abiodun arrived at the burial venue at approximately 4:35 p.m.—well within the official window of activities.
His brief delay, government sources say, was due to a whirlwind diplomatic assignment. The Governor had just returned from a high-level mission to Brazil with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, followed by a presidentially sanctioned stop in London to visit a medical clinic once used by former President Muhammadu Buhari.
“I did everything humanly possible to return to Ijebu Ode swiftly,” Governor Abiodun stated. “Missing the burial was never an option. That’s how much Baba meant to me.”
Political Propaganda Exposed
The state government has condemned the report as the product of “political frustration and resentment over Ogun’s progress.” It pointed to a disturbing trend of misinformation designed to distract from the significant infrastructural and economic strides the state has made under Governor Abiodun’s leadership.
“To politicize the burial of such a revered monarch is both distasteful and morally bankrupt,” said Tayo Mabeweje, Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Governor. “Governor Abiodun holds Oba Adetona in the highest regard—not just as a king, but as a father and moral guide.”
