Leaders of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in the South West have lauded Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, for his remarkable achievements in infrastructure, agriculture, education, health, and social investment.
The delegation, led by NUJ Vice Chairman (Zone B), Comrade Ronke Afebioye Samo, toured a number of ongoing and completed projects across Irepodun/Ifelodun, Ado-Ekiti, and Ikere-Ekiti Local Government Areas.
Among the projects inspected were the 17.8-kilometre ring road linking Iworoko to the Cargo Airport, the ongoing renovation of Oluyemi Kayode Stadium, the overhead bridge from Oke-Iyinmi to Fayose Market, the Ekiti State International Centre for Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, the Model Secondary School in Ikere-Ekiti, and the Renewed Hope Farm Settlement along BOUESTI–Igbara Odo Road.
Speaking after the inspection, Comrade Samo described the projects as “people-oriented and impactful,” adding that they align with the governor’s six-point development agenda.
“The tour has given us firsthand information about the level of work being done by the governor. I give him a pass mark. The 17.8km ring road with solar-powered streetlights will not only open up the communities between Iworoko and Ijan-Ekiti but also provide farmers easier access to markets, boost food production, and increase the state’s internally generated revenue,” she said.
On the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium upgrade, she noted that the facility, when completed, would rival international stadia and promote both physical and mental wellbeing among residents.
The governor’s Technical Adviser on Content Creation, Mr. Akintunde Taiwo, explained that the Oke-Iyinmi overhead bridge was designed to decongest traffic, enhance the capital’s aesthetics, and stimulate commerce.
The NUJ leaders also visited the Renewed Hope Farm Dormitory in Ikere-Ekiti—an agricultural hub with modern facilities aimed at making Ekiti a food basket for the nation while creating jobs for youths.
According to project officials, the government provides cleared and ploughed land for young farmers, purchases their produce, and stores them in silos to enhance food security.
Comrade Samo, joined by NUJ chairmen and secretaries from Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo, and Ekiti, praised Oyebanji’s vision and urged citizens to support his administration while constructively highlighting areas for improvement.
As part of their visit, the NUJ leadership also hosted the BAO Football Competition among journalists in the zone. The final match at Ball & Ball Pitch, Adehun, Ado-Ekiti, saw Ekiti NUJ defeat Ondo NUJ 4–2 to clinch the trophy.
