The Ogun State Police Command says it has arrested two officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and their driver for alleged electoral offences during the Federal Constituency Bye-Election in Iperu Remo, Ogun State. The suspects were intercepted in the early hours of Saturday, August 16, 2025, with a large sum of cash.
According to the Command, a patrol team from Iperu Remo Division stopped a Mitsubishi Spacewagon with registration number LAGOS AKD 887 HT around 12:45 a.m. The vehicle had three occupants, identified as Mr. Toryem Joe-Stans and Ms. Mandara Aminat, both INEC officials, along with their driver.
A search of the car led to the discovery of ₦2.5 million, which was allegedly in possession of Mr. Joe-Stans. During interrogation, he admitted the money was collected at Kehoy Hotel, Iperu, from an unidentified man he referred to as “Political Solution”, acting on the instructions of his supervisor.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, Ph.D., has ordered the suspects’ transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for discreet investigation. He assured the public that election monitoring would continue across the state and pledged to keep citizens informed as the probe progresses.
