Senator Shuaib Salisu, representing Ogun Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly, has empowered students by distributing educational materials aimed at encouraging academic success. The event took place at the June 12 Cultural Centre in Kuto, Abeokuta, where hundreds of secondary school students and their teachers gathered alongside educational stakeholders.
The distributed materials included textbooks for various subjects (Mathematics and English for SS1, SS2, and SS3), writing equipment, school bags, exercise books, past examination questions for JAMB, WASCE, SSCE, and NECO, as well as laptops and scholarships for select students.
In his speech, Senator Salisu emphasized the crucial role of education in individual and societal empowerment, encouraging students to focus on their academic pursuits. As the Chairman of the Committee on Information Technology (ICT) and Cyber, he highlighted education as key to personal and community advancement.
He encouraged public school students not to view themselves as disadvantaged but to remain dedicated to their studies. Salisu also outlined future initiatives, including a youth engagement program focused on character development and a seminar to support journalists, acknowledging the media’s vital role in society.
He noted that educational support extends beyond material provision, pledging to monitor students’ performance and create platforms for their continued growth. “It’s essential to provide youth with meaningful opportunities that allow them to build on their strengths and contribute to their communities,” he stated.
