The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has partnered with the Oko Opo Foundation to support widows and less privileged individuals as part of their commitment to community welfare. This collaboration resulted in a donation of **30 bags of 50 kg rice** to the foundation at its corporate office in Laderin, Abeokuta, Ogun State, aimed at aiding those in need during the holy month of Ramadan—a time for fasting and prayer among Muslims.
Previously, on December 26, 2022, the Oko Opo Foundation made significant contributions by providing cash, food items, and medications to over **150 widows** across various Ogun communities, making the last holiday season memorable for many.
The recent rice donation by the NCS fulfills a promise made during a peace parley between Oko Opo Foundation’s promoter, **Ambassador (Dr) Babatunde Adeyemo**, and NCS officials. This meeting followed an incident where a Customs officer had fired at Adeyemo’s vehicle. In a gesture of goodwill, Adeyemo forgave the officer and requested that he not be dismissed, emphasizing the importance of giving second chances.
The NCS team, represented by **Mr. Olabode Akinola** (Assistant Customs Comptroller), **Mr. Ismaheel Alarape** (NCS Superintendent Officer), and **Mr. Kaffu Samuel** (Deputy Superintendent Customs), stated that the donation aligns with their mission to support not-for-profit organizations, thereby alleviating the struggles of society’s underprivileged, in line with the current administration’s renewed hope agenda.
Dr. Babatunde Adeyemo, Chief Promoter of the Oko Opo Foundation, expressed gratitude for the donation, declaring it another victory for the widows in Nigeria. He assured that the rice would be distributed fairly and supplemented with additional tokens to help the widows celebrate the end of Ramadan.
