Lagos — A parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) in Lagos has been thrown into controversy after two female members were accused of engaging in a homosexual act within the church premises.
The incident occurred at the Season of Abundance Parish on the Lagos Mainland during preparations for a night vigil service. According to the parish pastor, Jeremiah Ezekiel, the church’s CCTV system captured suspicious activity involving Mrs. Funmilayo Eniola, the wife of a church worker, and another member, Ms. Adejoke Afolorunsho.
Pastor Ezekiel told police that the women were discovered inside a locked room around 11 p.m. He said he accessed the room with a spare key and confronted the pair, while also recording video evidence.
The matter was later escalated to the church’s disciplinary committee, which invited all parties—including Mrs. Eniola’s husband, Mr. Olalekan Olufemi—for questioning. However, Mrs. Eniola reportedly failed to appear.
Further investigation revealed that Mrs. Eniola has since left the country. Meanwhile, her husband was suspended and later dismissed from his role in the church. Ms. Afolorunsho was arrested and subsequently arraigned in court.
A family friend, Mr. Femi Akola, confirmed that Mrs. Eniola’s departure had strained her marriage, while police authorities disclosed that her name has been placed on a watchlist as proceedings continue.
The case is currently before the courts for determination.
