In a robust response to rising crime, police operatives in Benue State, under the directive of Inspector-General of Police, Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, have executed a series of raids to combat violent crimes such as robbery, kidnapping, and banditry. The operation, dubbed Zenda Joint Taskforce, aims to enhance public safety across the state.
On March 19, 2025, at approximately 2 AM, Taskforce operatives encountered an ambush by armed bandits while proceeding to a criminal hideout in Agwabi, located in Tombo Ward, Buruku Local Government Area. A violent gunfight erupted, allowing police operatives to deploy superior firepower, resulting in the neutralization of 12 bandits, though some managed to escape. Tragically, during the encounter, Inspector Terfa Anyiatse sustained a fatal gunshot wound and subsequently succumbed to his injuries.
Subsequent operations in Daudu and Makurdi led to further successes, including the retrieval of 7 locally made pistols, 3 AK-47 rifles, and the apprehension of 5 suspected robbers alongside 32 suspected cultists.
The IGP praised the courage and dedication of the operatives involved, expressing condolences to the family and friends of the late Inspector Anyiatse.
He underscored the police force’s commitment to maintaining community safety and urged the public to stay vigilant, reporting any suspicious activities to law enforcement.
