The Alake of Egbaland, Adedotun Gbadebo, has conferred the title of First Otun Asoludero of Egbaland on the Chairman of Abeokuta North Local Government, Lanre Oyegbola-Sodipo, in recognition of his contributions to development within the council area.
The installation ceremony, held at the Ake Palace Hall in Abeokuta, attracted a large turnout of traditional rulers, chiefs, political leaders, and well-wishers who gathered to celebrate the honour bestowed on the council boss.
Speaking at the event, Oba Gbadebo praised Oyegbola-Sodipo for his strides in improving infrastructure and driving development initiatives in Abeokuta North since assuming office. He noted that the Otun Asoludero title reflects the monarch’s appreciation of his efforts toward the progress of Egbaland.
The royal father urged the new title holder to remain committed to service, expressing confidence that his dedication could see him attain even higher recognition within the traditional institution in the future.
Drawing from history, the Alake cited the late Olabisi Onabanjo as an example of a leader who rose from grassroots governance to higher political office, encouraging Oyegbola-Sodipo to stay focused on impactful leadership.
In his acceptance remarks, Oyegbola-Sodipo described the honour as both gratifying and demanding, noting that it places a greater responsibility on him to deliver meaningful change.
He assured the people of his continued commitment to advancing development, not only in Abeokuta North but across Egbaland and Ogun State as a whole.
According to him, the Asoludero title symbolizes transformation and tangible impact, adding that it comes with expectations to improve lives throughout the kingdom.
“I feel honoured but also challenged,” he said. “The title itself speaks to transformation and impact. It means there is an expectation that one must make a difference that is visible across the land. For someone of my age to be entrusted with such responsibility is both humbling and motivating.”
