As anticipation builds for the 2025 Food Festival Abeokuta, organisers of the annual culinary and cultural showcase have urged the Federal Government to intensify nationwide efforts toward eradicating hunger and reinforcing food security.
Co-organiser Ogunyemi Opemipo, speaking at a press conference in Abeokuta, stressed that Nigeria’s fight against hunger must begin with large-scale food production and accessible road infrastructure to support the smooth movement of farm produce across the country.
He noted that while the festival celebrates food, culture, and community, it also doubles as a civic call to action—highlighting the need for healthier, affordable meals for all Nigerians.
“Our way of contributing to food security is to make nutritious, pocket-friendly meals available to everyone, regardless of social class. Last year’s edition showed how food can unite communities,” he said.
The 2025 Food Festival Abeokuta is scheduled to hold on December 13th at St. Ann’s Primary School, Oke-Ilewo, promising an immersive experience while spotlighting the urgent national conversation around hunger and nutrition.
This year’s theme, “Taste the Culture,” places strong emphasis on celebrating indigenous cuisine while promoting healthier eating habits and raising awareness about nutrition and wellness. Opemipo described the event as a “health-friendly initiative” that puts food security at the core of its mission.
Lead organiser, Ayanpole Ibraheem, announced that more than 50 food vendors will participate, serving a mix of traditional dishes, modern street food, and innovative culinary creations. The one-day festival will also feature live music, games, eating competitions, and family-friendly activities.
He also revealed a new partnership with FaztOrder, which will serve as the official logistics sponsor, supporting vendor operations and managing food delivery throughout the event.
Reiterating the unifying power of food, Opemipo added: “Food is more than what we eat—it brings us together, tells our story, and keeps us healthy and happy.”
