Tension gripped Ota, headquarters of Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State, on Saturday evening following an alleged attack on the member representing Ado-Odo/Ota Federal Constituency, Hon. Tunji Akinosi, FNSE, at the Local Government Secretariat.
The incident, which reportedly occurred at about 5:00 p.m. on February 21, 2026, allegedly involved the aide to the Olota of Ota, HRM Oba (Prof.) Abdulkabir Adeyemi Obalanlege; the Seriki of Ota and Chief of Staff to the Olota, Chief Lanre Bashorun Seriki; members of the Ogun State House of Assembly representing Ado-Odo/Ota State Constituency I and II, Hon. Sheriff Yusuf Ibeman and Hon. Musefiu Olatunji Ebe; the TORAN State Chairman, Alhaji Abdulwasiu Agunbiade; the outgoing party chairman, Jimoh Akeran; and other suspected hoodlums.
Eyewitnesses claimed that some of the political leaders were seen directing thugs to assault the federal lawmaker and his aides. Circulating video footage from the scene, yet to be independently verified, appeared to show a chaotic situation as the lawmaker was allegedly brutalised within the council premises.
Sources disclosed that the attack took place at the Local Government Secretariat, a separate venue from the APC Local Government Congress held earlier at the party secretariat in Ota. The incident was allegedly instigated by one Quadri Akinleye, said to be a close relative of the Olota’s aide.
The development is believed to be connected to the outcome of the recently concluded APC Local Government Congress, which produced Chief Whesu Obanla, a former Supervisor for Health, as consensus chairman. Political observers alleged that tensions escalated shortly after the affirmation of the new executives.
It was further alleged that hoodlums, reportedly mobilised by certain political and union figures, stormed the council secretariat shortly after the congress, leading to the attack on the federal lawmaker.
The incident has sparked widespread condemnation across Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government, with stakeholders calling on the Ogun State Government and security agencies to launch a thorough investigation. They urged authorities to ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice in order to prevent further political violence and safeguard democratic processes in the state.
