In a bold step toward digitizing the classroom, the Ogun State Government has commenced a massive capacity-building program for public school administrators and teachers. The initiative focuses on the seamless navigation of the Ogun Learning Enhancement and Academic Resource Network (OgunLEARN), an AI-powered platform designed to modernize the state’s educational delivery.
Speaking at a one-day training held at the Cinema Hall, June 12 Cultural Centre, the Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, stated that the introduction of technology is essential to keep educators relevant and effective in a rapidly changing world.
A standout feature of the portal is the AI-generated lesson plan module, which was officially launched in January 2026. Prof. Arigbabu noted that this innovation is specifically designed to eliminate the “tedious planning” traditionally required of teachers.
“The AI-powered notes allow teachers to focus on what truly matters: imparting knowledge and shaping the minds of the young ones,” Arigbabu said. He urged participants to use the platform daily, noting that deep mastery of the “nitty-gritty” of OgunLEARN only comes through consistent engagement.
The Commissioner revealed that the state is backing its digital policy with heavy investment in hardware. So far, the first phase of distribution has seen 236 out of 520 secondary schools receive: Smart Televisions, Laptops and iPads, Solar Power Units
Plans are already in motion for a second phase to ensure all remaining schools benefit from the technological upgrade.The training received high-level support from various stakeholders within the state’s education sector:
Apostle Abiodun Sanyaolu, Chairman of the Teaching Service Commission, pledged continuous digital training to ensure secondary school teachers remain technologically empowered.
Olalekan Ifede, Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board, charged teachers to be dedicated and embrace the improvement to complement the government’s efforts.
Permanent Secretary Mrs. Oluwatosin Oloko emphasized that OgunLEARN is a tool for ease, not just a digital replacement for paper, urging teachers to ask questions and seek clarity.
Representatives from the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS) and the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) lauded the Commissioner for elevating the sector through innovation.
In a related development, Prof. Arigbabu hosted a reception at his Oke-Mosan office to honor female students who represented Ogun State in an international mathematics competition.
To encourage academic hard work, the state rewarded the medalists with cash prizes based on their achievements: Gold Medalists: ₦100,000 each, Silver Medalists: ₦75,000 each, Bronze Medalists: ₦50,000 each
