Prince Dr. Dapo Abiodun, CON, the Executive Governor of Ogun State, has approved the disbursement of N6.7 billion in gratuity payments to pensioners across the state, marking a significant step towards addressing the backlog of accrued gratuities.
The announcement was made through a letter from Comrade (Chief) W.O. Oloyede, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Ogun State Council.
The financial allocation includes N3.2 billion designated for state pensioners and N3.5 billion for local government pensioners.
This move is seen as a testament to Governor Abiodun’s commitment to the welfare of senior citizens whose entitlements have long been denied.
In his expression of gratitude, Comrade Oloyede highlighted how the timely payment of gratuities serves as a crucial relief for many retirees and their families, especially in the current challenging economic climate.
He also acknowledged the governor’s consistent efforts, including prompt monthly pension payments and recent palliative measures aimed at easing the financial burden on pensioners.
Furthermore, Oloyede urged the governor to approve a consequential increase in pensions, in line with the 2019 Federal Government Circular on consequential adjustments.
This adjustment is expected to provide additional financial support to long-standing pensioners, enabling them to meet various health needs.
The pensioners’ council expressed their appreciation for Abiodun’s leadership and vision for the state, emphasizing their desire to continue collaborating with his administration to drive development and progress in Ogun State. They extended prayers for the governor’s well-being and wise leadership as he guides the state forward.
