In a significant political realignment, key members of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) and the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) have officially declared their support for a transition to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
This decision crystallized during a meeting attended by 69 influential stakeholders, including local government chairmen, political elders, and representatives from various coalitions.
A remarkable 62 out of the 69 attendees unanimously backed the shift to the APC, recognizing it as the party poised to enhance their political relevance and grassroots impact.
This strategic move is anchored in the support for Hon. Adekunle Abdulkabir Akinlade and Hon. Sikirulai Ogundele (Ph.D.), who are viewed as pivotal in guiding this transition amid a shifting political landscape.
The decision follows a two-month consultation period marked by grievances over the gubernatorial candidacy processes within the PDP, particularly concerning Hon. Ladi Adebutu.
During this time, stakeholders sought viable political alternatives that align with their aspirations for the upcoming 2027 elections.
While there were suggestions to consider alignment with the Atiku Abubakar-led coalition, the overwhelming majority identified the APC as the sole party capable of fulfilling their political ambitions through its organizational strength and statewide reach.
Political figures present at the meeting emphasized that this realignment represents a crucial turning point in Ogun State’s political journey, vital for establishing credible leadership and promoting sustainable governance.
The integration of seasoned leaders like Akinlade and Ogundele into the APC could significantly bolster the party’s position and enhance its prospects for renewed dominance in the region.
