The Ogun State Government has intensified its response to a suspected chemical leak in Ijebu-Ode, as top environmental officials conducted on-the-spot assessments of affected schools and nearby facilities.
Leading the delegation, the Commissioner for Environment, Ola Oresanya, alongside the General Manager of the Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA), Kehinde Bello, visited Our Lady of Apostle Primary School following reports of a possible chemical leak in the area.
The visit formed part of the state government’s emergency response aimed at assessing the situation and ensuring the safety of pupils, staff, and residents within the affected community.
During the inspection, the OGEPA boss extended the visit to Sacred Heart Catholic College to evaluate the impact of the incident and reassure school authorities of swift government intervention.
Bello also proceeded to the State Hospital Ijebu-Ode, where some students affected by the suspected leak are currently receiving treatment.
To ascertain the source and nature of the incident, OGEPA has deployed and installed specialised monitoring equipment within the area, as investigations continue.
The state government, through OGEPA, has assured residents and school authorities that all necessary measures are being taken to safeguard public health and prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
