The Ogun State Government has urged industries operating within the state to strictly comply with environmental protection regulations aimed at curbing pollution and improving residents’ quality of life.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA), Alhaji Farouk Akintunde, gave the directive in Abeokuta during a three-day inspection tour of industrial facilities across the agency’s three operational zones.
Akintunde said the visits were necessary to assess challenges faced by industries in meeting environmental standards, stressing the need for cleaner production processes and harmony with host communities.
He also encouraged industries to embark on tree planting initiatives to tackle climate change and enhance public health.
The OGEPA boss appealed for closer collaboration between the agency and industries, noting that inspection officers must be granted full access to facilities during monitoring visits.
Responding, Ganfeng Lithium Limited’s Consultant, Mr. Akeem Akindele, and Hayat Kimya Nigeria Limited’s Production Manager, Mr. Rasak Sulaimon, said their companies had invested in staff training and the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to safeguard workers and maintain a healthy work environment.
Industries inspected included Hayat Kimya Nigeria Limited, Alef Recycling, Reliance Chemical Limited, International Distillers Limited, Tower Aluminium Industry, Long-Xian Aluminium Limited, Italy Ceramic Limited, Kam Steel Limited, Metal Manufacturing Limited, Chi Farms Limited, Valency Agro Nigeria Limited, Lifemate Furniture, and West African Soy Industrial Limited
