ABEOKUTA, August 21, 2025 – The Ogun State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially dismissed reports circulating in the media and on social platforms alleging that former Governor and party stalwart, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has been suspended from the party.
In a strongly worded disclaimer issued on Thursday by the Director of Publicity for the party in Ogun State, Mr. Nuberu A. Olufemi, the APC described the claims as “malicious,” “fabricated,” and the work of “faceless individuals and political adversaries” seeking to cause confusion within the party and discredit its leadership.
“This publication is false, reckless, and a deliberate attempt to create disaffection and bring the APC into disrepute,” the statement read in part. “It did not originate from any recognized or sanctioned organ of the Ogun State APC.”
The party clarified that no official meeting of the State Working Committee was held, and no such disciplinary action has been taken against Senator Amosun, who served as governor of Ogun State from 2011 to 2019 and remains an influential figure within the party.
In response to the circulating misinformation, the party announced it has:
- Formally reported the incident to security agencies,
- Requested a thorough investigation into the source of the fabricated report, and
- Vowed to prosecute anyone found responsible for the creation or dissemination of the false information.
“This serves as a stern warning to the purveyors of this fake news. Your actions constitute a serious crime with grave consequences,” Mr. Olufemi emphasized.
He also reassured party members and the public that the Ogun APC remains “united, strong, and focused on delivering good governance,” and will not be derailed by what it termed “the antics of desperate elements.”
The statement marks the latest development in an increasingly tense political atmosphere as parties across Nigeria begin realigning ahead of the 2027 general elections.
