Abeokuta, September 1, 2025 – The Ogun Tech Community, a coalition of technology professionals, startups, innovation hubs, and digital experts, has urged the Ogun State Government to establish a dedicated Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to accelerate the state’s digital transformation.
The group is calling on Governor Dapo Abiodun to fulfil his administration’s promise by renaming the current Ministry of Education, Science and Technology to the Ministry of Education and setting up a standalone ICT Ministry.
The community argued that, while the Federal Government has already created the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy—which is driving initiatives such as the Nigeria Startup Act—Ogun State risks missing out on the benefits without a central authority to champion ICT policies and programs.
Ogun State is home to key figures in Nigeria’s digital economy, including Dr. Bosun Tijani, Honourable Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, and Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu, Chairman of the Senate Committee on ICT and Cybersecurity. The Tech Community stressed that the absence of a dedicated ICT ministry has left many national opportunities untapped.
Speaking on behalf of the community, its President, Adekunle Durosinmi, said:
“Ogun State has the innovators, the talent, and the national representation to lead Nigeria’s digital economy. What is missing is the institutional structure to harness these opportunities. A Ministry of ICT will allow Ogun State to align with federal initiatives, implement crucial policies like the Startup Act, and fully develop Silicon Hill—our own Silicon Valley—to nurture globally competitive tech talent.”
The group highlighted that a Ministry of ICT would provide a central authority to drive digital policies, unlock opportunities from national programs, fast-track the Startup Act’s implementation, and position Ogun as Nigeria’s next innovation hub.
The Ogun Tech Community called on Governor Abiodun to act decisively in establishing the ministry and ensure the state does not lose out in the rapidly expanding digital economy.
