In a concerted effort to tackle the rising menace of kidnapping and gun-related crimes, the operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have achieved significant success, rescuing four kidnapped victims and neutralizing seven notorious criminals in recent operations across Abia and Nasarawa States.
On March 9, 2025, at about 9:30 AM, the Abia State Police Command received reports about four individuals who were abducted while traveling in their Toyota RAV4 along New Umuahia Road, Obingwa. Acting on credible intelligence, the police tactical team located the kidnappers’ hideout in a three-bedroom bungalow at Osokwa, Osisioma LGA, on March 14, 2025.
During the rescue operation, police operatives encountered heavy fire from the kidnappers. Thanks to the tactical team’s superior firepower, six members of the kidnapping syndicate were neutralized, and all four victims were rescued unharmed. The operation also led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, six magazines, and thirty-four rounds of live ammunition. The victims have since been provided with medical attention at the Police Hospital.
In a separate operation, the Nasarawa State Police Command, collaborating with the Nigerian Army and local vigilante groups, neutralized a well-known kidnapper, Abdullahi, alias “Honor,” during a joint security operation in Akwanga on the same day. The suspect was apprehended while trying to flee on a motorcycle near the Akwanga Central Mosque. Although he attempted to evade arrest brandishing a firearm, quick action from the security forces subdued him. A search of Abdullahi revealed a Beretta pistol and twelve rounds of 9mm live ammunition. One accomplice managed to escape with gunshot wounds, and a manhunt is currently ongoing.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM., commended the operatives for their professionalism and efficient teamwork. He reiterated the importance of sustaining the fight against criminal activities, warning criminals to cease their actions or face decisive consequences. These recent successes reinforce the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks and ensuring the safety and security of all citizens.
