ABEOKUTA – The Ogun State Police Command officially entered a new leadership phase today as Bode Ojajuni assumed office as the 38th Commissioner of Police.
In a decisive maiden briefing at the Command Headquarters in Eleweran, the new police chief set a clear tone for his tenure: a return to core professionalism and an unwavering respect for the rights of the citizenry.
Addressing a gathering of officers and pressmen, CP Ojajuni emphasized that the “Gateway State” would witness a policing style rooted in discipline.
“Discipline remains the bedrock of the Force,” Ojajuni stated. “Our officers must demonstrate professionalism and uphold the dignity of every individual they interact with. The rule of law is not negotiable.”
The Commissioner was quick to point out that the police cannot succeed in a vacuum. He extended an olive branch to traditional rulers, community leaders, and the media, describing them as “critical stakeholders” in the architecture of state security. He urged residents to be proactive by providing timely, credible intelligence to nip crime in the bud.
Coinciding with his resumption, CP Ojajuni’s first official act was the inspection of a free medical outreach held at Iwe Iroyin, Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Union of Journalists, Ogun State Council.
The initiative, part of the National Police Day celebrations themed “Community Partnership: Building Trust,” aligns with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu.
The outreach provided essential health services to the public, including:
• Blood sugar and pressure screenings
• Height and weight assessments
• General health consultations
The Commissioner noted that such initiatives are vital in reinforcing the mantra that the police are truly friends of the people.
Ojajuni did not overlook his own rank and file. He promised a renewed focus on officer welfare but coupled the promise with a stern warning: dedication and unity are required to maintain peace across the state’s 20 local government areas.
The week-long National Police Day activities, which began today, are set to be a blend of community service and tactical showcases. Following sensitization campaigns and the presentation of cheques to the families of fallen heroes, the celebrations will conclude on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, with a ceremonial parade and specialized tactical displays.
