The member representing Yewa North–Imeko Afon federal constituency, Hon. Gboyega Nasir Isiaka has reteraited that the passing of the local government autonomy into law will engineer value re-orientation.
GNI, as fondly called maintained that with the law, the role of traditional institutions in the local government will receive a boost, thereby rubbing on the value system of the country.
Hon. Isiaka made this assertion while speaking with newsmen at the 10th coronation anniversary of the Onimeko of Imeko, HRM Oba Benjamin Alabi Oyeditan Olanite, on Saturday.
In his words, “As we go into more viral local government administration, in line with the decision of the supreme Court, i believe that all the institutions in the local communities will be put into useuse, including the traditional institutions.
“The country is going through some reformation in those areas, and i am for us to use our traditional institutions to promote our values.
“The main cause of the challenges we have in our society now is the total breakdown in our value system, and I think our traditional institutions are in a very good position to be able to use their beads and authority to promote the values that we want in the country, give titles to those you believe that have promoted our value system in one form or the other, recognize people that have done things to promote our value system”.
GNI praised the developmental spirit of the Onimeko in the progress of the community, saying that people are more aware of the historical background of the community.
“I think it’s been interesting and progressive. We have seen a lot of progress in town, just as the kabiesi has reeled it out. We have also witness peace and historical awareness.
“I think the kabiesi have put alot of resources, financial and intellectual into digging out more about the town that even we that are from the town are not aware of. All of these have brought everybody together, and we can only continue to thank the kabiesi, and his chiefs for some of these things”, he said
The lawmaker however said he will continue to contribute his quota in the development of the constituency with meaningful developmental bills on the floor of the assembly.
“Just like i mentioned, the CBT center for instance is major one as there is no CBT center in the whole of the local government where students can take computer based examinations. The construction is billed to start on the 10th of October.
“There is a 1.5km road ongoing, another 3km is meant to start any moment from now. There is a borehole in of the neighborhood called Ojoloko. It’s a place that have never had water since the late 60s.
“There is employment opportunities, my personal contribution of teachers into some of the secondary schools that we have, there is the Federal Institute of Arts and Vocational Studies, the bill which has passed second reading and going into its third reading now.
“There is also the free trade zone bill, which is meant to take advantage of the town as a border town. These and more are the things I have done that relates to this community”, he added
