The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced its Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise aimed at updating the National Register of Voters and boosting citizens’ participation in Nigeria’s electoral process.
Resident Electoral Commissioner, Ogun State, Mrs Feyijimi Saseyi stated this while briefing the press on the latest developments of the Continous Registration Exercise in her Abeokuta Office.
Backed by Section 9 (I–VII) of the Electoral Act 2022 (as amended), the exercise is structured to ensure inclusiveness, transparency, and wider accessibility for eligible voters across the country.
According to INEC in Ogun State, Mrs Feyijimi Saseyi, the registration is free of charge and open only to Nigerian citizens who meet specific requirements.
Applicants must be 18 years or above at the time of registration, must not have previously registered under the current dispensation, and must reside, work, or originate from the Local Government Area, Council, or Ward where they intend to register. Additionally, prospective voters must not be legally incapacitated under electoral laws, must present themselves physically for registration, and must resolve any discrepancies where their names are missing on the voters’ register despite having registration slips.
The CVR is designed as a year-long exercise, beginning on August 18, 2025, and running from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm, Mondays through Fridays. The first phase of the exercise, covering fresh registration of voters, will span from August 18 to December 10, 2025. This will be followed by the display of the preliminary register for public claims and objections from December 15 to 21, 2025, ensuring accuracy and accountability in the electoral roll.
Ogun INEC REC further outlined the scope of the exercise, which covers fresh registration for those who recently turned 18 or have never registered before, transfer of registration to a new location, replacement of lost or defaced Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), and correction of errors in biodata such as names and addresses. It also provides an avenue for those whose PVCs have been damaged to request replacements without additional costs.
To ease the process, INEC has introduced digital solutions to complement physical registration. Prospective registrants can initiate applications using an Android phone or laptop by visiting the INEC CVR portal: www.cvr.inecnigeria.org. While fresh registration requires a physical presence at designated INEC centers, all other services—such as transfer, replacement, and correction—can be completed online, saving citizens valuable time and resources.
