In line with its unwavering commitment to staff development and service excellence, the Centre for Continuing Education (CCED) at Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, recently held a one-day capacity-building training for its personnel. The event was aimed at enhancing professionalism across all cadres of staff, including administrative, secretarial, accounting, procurement, and security units.
Speaking at the opening session, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Ayodeji Agboola, emphasized that the fast-evolving educational landscape demands a proactive and well-equipped workforce. He noted that support staff are crucial to the university’s operational efficiency, and must therefore be empowered to align their duties with the institution’s core values of integrity, innovation, and accountability. “We must keep the engine running. This training is designed to refresh your minds and reinforce your strategic importance to OOU’s mission,” he said.
Professor Agboola praised the leadership of the Centre under its Director, Professor Babajide Dasaolu, for driving notable reforms and cultivating a results-oriented team culture. He described the CCED as a model for service-focused academic units within the university, lauding its achievements in both academic and administrative spheres. He reiterated the university’s commitment to continuous training and retraining of staff, stressing that human capacity development remains a top priority for the institution.
In his welcome address, Professor Dasaolu highlighted the training’s significance in deepening staff understanding of institutional procedures and rekindling their commitment to excellence. He listed several key accomplishments of the Centre under his leadership, including the installation of CCTV systems around the JUPEB examination halls and the provision of solar-powered lighting across the mini campus to bolster security.
The Director also noted academic advancements such as the timely release of approved results for ACP and various degree programmes up to the 2023/2024 academic session, as well as successful processing and regularization of JAMB admission letters for 2024/2025 weekday Part-Time students. These strides, he said, reflect the Centre’s determination to remain a pacesetter within the university system.
Goodwill messages were delivered by principal officers of the university, including the Registrar, Dr Caleb Orukotan; the Bursar, Mr Olufemi Sowunmi; and the University Librarian, who was represented by Dr Biodun Odunewu
