The Labour Party has offered warm — and somewhat pointed — congratulations to Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, over the recent approval by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) for the Gateway International Airport to commence scheduled commercial flight operations.
In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Abayomi Arabambi, the party praised the governor’s “unprecedented and exemplary leadership” for achieving what successive administrations had left in the realm of political promises.
Governor Abiodun announced on Friday that the airport had officially received an Aerodrome Operational Permit from the NCAA, following a successful inspection, verification, and audit — making it the first facility in Nigeria to secure such an approval.
“This milestone puts Ogun State on the global map and opens doors for trade, investment, and tourism,” the governor said, revealing that a major international company will begin two weekly cargo flights from London, while passenger flights to Abuja and Port Harcourt will also commence shortly.
The Labour Party noted that the development breaks one of Ogun State’s “most stubborn political taboos” — the absence of a functional commercial flight service — and subtly reminded that this long-awaited breakthrough was overdue.
“What Governor Abiodun has done goes beyond project delivery; it reshapes Ogun’s economic and political landscape,” the statement read. “Congratulations to the good people of Ogun State.”
