In a commendable display of efficiency, the Ogun State Security Network, popularly known as Amotekun, successfully thwarted a robbery attempt in Akinale Town during the early hours of Saturday.
The incident, which occurred around 1:20 AM, left a 28-year-old man, Opeyemi Olusanya, fighting for his life after sustaining a gunshot wound to his left limb.
According to reports, the robbers targeted Olusanya in his residence, where they shot him and fled the scene in a wine-colored Kia Cerato bearing registration number KRD 840 JS.
The vehicle, which belongs to Ariwoola Abiola Wasiu from Ifesowapo Estate, Adunbu, was left behind as Amotekun operatives responded rapidly to a distress call from the area.
Upon arriving at the scene, Amotekun operatives found the victims in distress and immediately initiated a pursuit of the assailants, who had managed to escape into the nearby bush with stolen valuables.
The stolen items included eight advanced mobile phones, two laptops, jewelry, and an amount of fifty-four thousand naira (₦54,000).
While the robbers fled, the Amotekun team diligently secured the area. They recovered the operational vehicle and promptly handed it over to the Itori Division of the Nigeria Police. Collaborative efforts between the police and Amotekun are now underway to investigate the robbery and track down the perpetrators.
Meanwhile, Olusanya was found in a pool of blood and was swiftly transported to an undisclosed private hospital in Obada-Oko for urgent medical attention.
Residents of Akinale Town have expressed their gratitude towards the Ogun State Amotekun Corps for their swift action and commitment to safeguarding the community.
Many have hailed the response as a significant step toward ensuring safety and security in the region, reinforcing the critical role of the security agency in protecting citizens.
Col. T.T. Bakare (Rtd), the Deputy Corps Commander of the Ogun State Security Network, commended the team’s effectiveness. “Our prompt response to distress calls is central to our mission. We remain committed to maintaining peace and security within our communities,” he stated.
The incident underscores the ongoing challenges of crime in the area but also highlights the proactive measures being implemented by the Amotekun Corps to protect residents and ensure a safe environment for all.
