The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a police officer caught on a viral video shooting at the vehicle of an unarmed citizen in Asaba.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, October 22, 2025, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, said the officer’s action was unprofessional and contrary to the provisions of Force Order 237, which guides the use of firearms by police personnel.
According to Bright, the erring officer has been identified, detained, and subjected to internal disciplinary procedures following the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda.
While acknowledging that the officer was responding to a reported hit-and-run incident, the Command condemned the use of firearms in the situation, stressing that no justification exists for such reckless conduct.
CP Abaniwonda assured members of the public that a full investigation is underway and that appropriate sanctions will follow in line with the Police Act and regulations. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to the protection of lives and property in Delta State.
