The Consultant to the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun on Islamic Affairs, and Wakeel Muslimeen of Yoruba Land, Edo and Delta State, Dr. Sheik Iskeel Lawal Sugar has led members of League of the Imams and Alfas against the planned protest of August first this year and that Muslims in Ogun condemn it in its entirety.
This was the thrust of an engagement meeting of Imams and Alfas on Thursday at the Kobiti Central Mosque Abeokuta, where a thorough sensitization of Muslims took place.
Dr Iskeel Lawal Sugar said his office puts up this engagement to ensure that Muslims in Ogun State are properly briefed and on the same page.
‘’What the faceless protesters are calling their reasons for the protest is not only peculiar to Nigeria, it is all over the world and we should endure.’’
Representatives of Department of State Services, DSS, Kolawole Sikirulai admonished muslims to stand as one and brief their families on the danger of engaging in the planned protest as those behind it are without face
‘’The problem we are facing is not limited to Nigeria like Alhaji Sugar said it’s across the globe but when element of bad character in our society will put it, they will make it look at it as if it is limited to Nigeria alone, so it is worldwide phenomenon, things have gone up, and what we have seen is that solution to high cost of living does not start and end with demonstration.’’
From the Nigeria Police, Ogun State Command, ACP Haruna Adamu also assured the gathering that their safety is non-negotiable as the police will protect them even when there is no protest.
‘’We should learn how to live together, we should learn how to support the government, we should learn how to table out grievances before the government, the president is a listening person, he can listen to you, so we the police, we assure you that, we are going to do our best, with your cooperation, we have mapped out strategies on how to go round to ensure that their relative peace in Ogun State
Secretary to the Ogun State League of Imams and Alfas, Alhaji Tajudeen Adewunmi, on the position of the league says they are totally against the protest and have sensitised their members not to be part of it.
‘’This is a new government, the government is just one year and two months old, it is too early to access this government.’’
Amongst those present at the engagement were the Chief Imam of Egba, Yewa, Ijebu and Remo and other muslim leaders and Association representatives
