Nigeria’s healthcare sector is poised for a significant turnaround as the Federal Government reaffirms its commitment to improving the welfare of all health workers, not just doctors.
Minister of State for Environment ,Dr. Iziaq Kunle Salako stated this at the National Association of Resident Doctors’ (NARD) Annual General Meeting and scientific conference in Abeokuta.
The theme of the meeting was: “Evolving Roles Of Doctors In Healthcare Management And Nation Building”.
Describing the Tinubu-led federal government as doctor centric’, Salako boasted that the current administration is the most doctor concern in the history of Nigeria’s democracy.
According to Salako, President Tinubu is dedicated to revitalizing the healthcare sector, ensuring quality Universal Health Coverage for all Nigerians.
“Government will continue to meet resident doctors to please their welfare. President Tinubu is particularly concern about health workers and I can tell you that his cabinet is a cabinet of doctors.
“I cannot remember the last time we had eight doctors in a federal cabinet in Nigeria. We are going to push for the welfare of not only doctors but the entire health workers.
“The president’s commitment is to all Nigeria and he is doing his best to turn around the fortune of Nigeria so that all of us can start smiling again”, Salako said.
The Minister also urges the Resident Doctors to be abreast of the current situation of climate change as they need to be more equipped and upgrade their skills.
“How to ensure that the health system is prepared to respond effectively and adequately to the challenge of climate change.
“As you know Nigeria and the entire part of the world is facing challenges with extreme weather event, flooding, hurricane, drought and when this happens, medical injuries occur, physical injuries occur, it also escalate some diseases and we have talked about it comprehensively today to try and inform doctors on the need to be prepared.”
Earlier in his remarks, the President of NARD, Dele Abdullahi expressed concern that residents doctors, despite unfavourable working conditions are committed to the country.
He however demanded an improved welfare for all residents doctors across the country.
